Donation Respect Animals 2026 : Beagles of Burgundy Association

As part of our Respect Animals program, we donated €500 to the BEAGLES OF BURGUNDY association in February 2026.

“Beagles of Burgundy is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving a real life to beagles who have been used in laboratories for scientific research.

We search for them worldwide as soon as a laboratory notifies us that beagles are nearing the end of their experimental protocol. We are ready to help any research laboratory that wants to find an alternative to euthanasia.

We welcome the beagles to the Free Beagles Home in Burgundy, France. We care for them and help them adapt to a normal life as free beagles among humans. We encourage them to play, explore, and learn by helping them overcome their fears.

Once they have gained trust in humans, we find them loving forever homes.”

Interview with Virginie Mouseler, President of Beagles of Burgundy

1. Why should we help beagles?

Because beagles are among the most used animals by pharmaceutical laboratories worldwide to test their drugs and treatments. Their organs are then analyzed to evaluate the effects of the drug on the body. But for tests that don’t require these procedures, some countries encourage an alternative: the rehabilitation and adoption of beagles at the end of the experimental protocol.

2. Why are beagles among the most used animals by laboratories?

Because they are carnivorous mammals, like humans, with similarities in certain tissues and organs. And because they are gentle, docile, and never show aggression.

3. What do laboratory beagles endure?

Drug testing, vaccine testing, reactions to toxic substances, heart surgery, cancer exposure, dermatological irritation testing, organ transplantation, eye irritation testing, embryo research, and prosthetic testing. For comparative trials, some groups of beagles receive a placebo treatment under the same conditions. This allows them to adapt to a new life without any negative consequences.

4. Where do the beagles rescued by Beagles of Burgundy come from?

The animals rescued by Beagles of Burgundy are beagles at the end of their experimental protocol. We collect them from laboratories around the world, or they are given to our partners. Beagles of Burgundy’s partners are organizations committed to fighting animal suffering.

If you work for a laboratory that uses beagles, please contact us at info@beaglesofburgundy.org.

5. How does a dog from a laboratory behave?

Beagles who have lived in captivity their entire lives have everything to learn about our world: grass, nature, responding to their new name, playing, being housebroken, walking on a leash, and understanding commands. They are puppies in the bodies of adult dogs. Beagles of Burgundy helps them adjust to real life. Their past often makes them fearful at first, but they quickly regain their zest for life if they are loved and protected.

Thank you all. Thank you for them.
